The Law of Attraction – Nonsense or Something Real?

What is this law really about?
Is the Law of Attraction just new-age nonsense, or could there actually be something to it?
In recent years, “manifesting” has become a trend, especially among younger people. Ever since The Secret was released in 2011 – based on the book by the same name – social media has been flooded with videos about how to “attract” everything you want in life. You can barely scroll through TikTok or YouTube without seeing someone talking about how they manifested their dream job, car, partner, or new lifestyle.
But does it actually work?
An idea without explanation?
Can you really think your way into a new life? And if so – how does it work?
Neither the book nor the film offers a deep explanation of what actually happens behind the scenes. They talk about the “power of the universe,” but don’t explain what that means, or why this should be a universal law that works for everyone.
I’ve believed in it myself
To be honest, I’m “guilty” of believing in it too. I’ve read Think and Grow Rich, watched The Secret, and been inspired by the stories. One that really stuck with me was a man who discovered that the house he had just bought – completely by coincidence – was the exact same house he had put on his vision board years earlier. Nice story, right?
But I actually have a similar experience myself – and it happened long before I even knew what “manifesting” or the “Law of Attraction” was.
My story: From mailboxes to my dream house
I was 13 years old, helping my mom deliver Herbalife flyers in mailboxes. It was winter, dark, and completely still outside. The streetlights lit up the falling snow, and there was this incredibly peaceful atmosphere. When we entered a particular street, I got this amazing feeling in my body. At the very end of the street, there was a house. I remember thinking: “One day, I want to live here.”
Years later, I got an unexpected opportunity. An acquaintance of mine was moving to the other side of the country and asked if I wanted to rent her house temporarily. I said yes. After moving in, lighting some candles and sitting down to enjoy the view of the fjord, it suddenly hit me:
This is the house. This is the street.
Same place. Same feeling. Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe not.
Coincidence – or a pattern?
These kinds of “coincidences” happen all the time. Maybe not always this dramatic, but small, strange moments that make you wonder. Is it all just chance? Or is there actually something more going on?
If the Law of Attraction is real, then the explanation has to go deeper – into philosophy and quantum physics.
Is there a scientific explanation?
Modern science doesn’t currently offer any widely accepted explanation that supports the idea of the Law of Attraction. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the idea is useless or false.
History has shown us that many groundbreaking ideas were initially laughed at or rejected. Galileo was ridiculed for suggesting the Earth wasn’t the center of the universe. Today, we know our sun is just one of billions, and most stars likely have their own planets.
Maybe the Law of Attraction is something similar – an idea not yet fully understood, but one that could have roots in reality if we look through the lens of quantum physics and consciousness.
Final thoughts
I don’t claim to know what’s true or not – but I choose to keep an open mind. Maybe there are forces at work that we don’t fully understand yet. Maybe it’s not just our thoughts that shape life, but the intention behind them, our emotions, and the actions we take.
